Ever since the early 2000s I have loved Melissa McCarthy as an actor–have you seen her in “Gilmore Girls”? Soooo funny! Unfortunately, since then, she has been typecasted in a lot of roles that I don’t really connect with. So, when I came across this new Christmas movie on Amazon Prime Video, I was surprised. This didn’t seem like it was going to be a role that she had already been in before. And, as it turns out, it isn’t. Talk about a happy accident finding this film!

“Genie” is a Christmas fantasy that can be enjoyed by the entire family. It is about a father in New York City who struggles with balancing his home and work life. Much to his chagrin, this ends up costing him what he treasures most. Enter Melissa McCarthy, the genie. With much humour and heart, this movie is a fantastic palette cleanser from all the current dark dramas on television.
