What I expected to be just another romantic comedy (though nothing wrong with that!) turned out to be a layered story of the American class system, the commodification of people, and the acceptance of Self.

Materialists, starring Dakota Johnson (Persuasion, Verity), Chris Evans (Captain America of The Avengers) and Pedro Pascal (The Mandalorian, Fantastic Four: First Steps), is a story that centres on the life of an elite matchmaker in New York City, which follows her professional wins and woes as she navigates between what society teaches her to pursue and what she wants to pursue. With themes additionally lending themselves to success, image, and love, A24 has produced yet another sentimentally powerful film with as much educational content for English learners as entertainment for all audiences.
